One person's homelab, run and broken on purpose to learn how infrastructure actually works — this site is where the notes end up.
smc_lab is what's left after taking things apart to see how they work, then writing down what actually happened instead of what was supposed to. It started as a single machine and has kept growing since — new services get added when they're needed, old ones get replaced the moment there's a better way to run them.
Everything here is run and maintained by one person, for the sake of understanding and having full control over the software actually running on it. Nothing here is precious; it's all rebuildable, and most of it has been rebuilt at least once.
Two more EIB definitions exist but aren't deployed anywhere yet: a 3-node Rancher management cluster and an nftables firewall appliance built from the same base image lenny started from. Config only, for now.
